The Douro Superior
Our Estates lie around the town of Almendra, in Vila Nova de Foz Côa,in the reaches of the Upper Douro River. This is the confluence of threeicons of Portugal and the worlds’ natural and historic heritage: theArchaeological Park of the Côa-Valley, the Natural Park of InternationalDouro and the Douro D.O. Region for Porto and wine.
Our family has been producing wines, olive oil and almonds since the SeventeenthCentury in these lands.
The region has been inhabited since prehistorictimes. On these lands the Romans, already made wine in the 2ndCentury BC and the Arabs cultivated almonds and pressed olive oil sincethe 7th Century. The extremely poor soils of schist origin, high slopes andextreme climate, characterized by high thermal amplitudes and low rainfalllevels, gave rise to the culture and traditions of our region.
