QUINTA DE CALÁBRIA
The city of Calabria is said to have
been founded by Trajan or Theodosius. It was a bishopric during the
Visigothic Empire and under the rule of the
Suevians. It is said, though without any
documental proof, that it was sacked during
Saracen invasions, and all that is left to be seen
are the remains of the castle walls, below which
the Quinta de Calabria is located.

From the top of the hill there is a
beautiful view of São Cibrão with the Douro
below. In this rugged and historic region are
produced the best and most famous wines in
Portugal, including the wines and also the oil
from this Quinta.

From the 50 hectares of this Quinta,
roughly 14 correspond to vineyards, entirely
exposed to the South and West, which were planted
in the eighties with Touriga Nacional, Touriga
Franca and Tinta Roriz varietals, at a
height of between 175 metres and 280 metres. In
addition, there are 10 hectares of olive groves
and 21 hectares of almond groves.
